Rustic, countryside wedding at Samlesbury Hall

From a quick glance at my website you’ll know that I’m a big fan of doing your wedding your way. Ditching the traditions you don’t like, creating new traditions and generally making sure that your wedding day reflects who you are as a couple.

Emily and Darren did exactly this. They wanted a really simple, relaxed day filled with colour and countryside vibes. Perfect!

Weddings at Samlesbury Hall

Samlesbury Hall is a stunning wedding venue – well, wedding venue, historical house and events space – in Lancashire. Emily and Darren fell in love with the history of the place (it was built in 1325 so that’s a lot of history!) as well as the style of the building and the woodland setting.

I spent the morning with Emily and her family before heading over to Samlesbury Hall to meet Darren who was, as most grooms do, struggling to tie his tie! It’s the nerves! Emily and Darren’s favourite colour is blue and there were light blue accents throughout the day. I loved the blue florals in Darren’s tie and pocket square, the bright blue splashes of colour on the wedding stationery and the bridesmaid’s dresses.

Both Emily and Darren had personalised their outfits for the day. Darren’s tailor made suit jacket was embroidered with his initials, as was his shirt. Emily absolutely loved her dress, especially the sleeves. It was made from two different dresses and in a similar pattern to her Mum’s wedding dress. She looked so beautiful and Darren was overwhelmed when he set eyes on her.

Personal, intimate wedding ceremony

Emily and Darren’s wedding ceremony was so personal and poignant. They made sure that they chose vows and readings that reflected them and their relationship, it was so special to witness and there was a huge cheer when they kissed for the first time as husband and wife.

Both Emily and Darren had huge grins on their faces as they walked out of the ceremony and were covered in confetti by their family and friends. Then it was time for one of my favourite parts of the day, when the couple get to spend time with their loved ones. They’re being enveloped in huge hugs, there are smiles everywhere your turn and the mood is full of love and joy. I can never get enough of that feeling!

After some photos with their dog (guest of honour!) we nipped off to the colourful shepherd’s hut for some portraits before heading inside for speeches. The room looked amazing, a fab mix of rustic charm and contemporary with those bright blue highlights.

The whole day was just brilliant from start to finish. It was so ‘Emily and Darren’. From the moment I walked into bridal prep to the packed dancefloor at the end of the night, they did everything their way. I asked Emily and Darren if they had any top tips for future couples and here are their very wise words…

“Try to stay calm.

Friends and family will have opinions but as long as you stay true to yourself your day will be fantastic when it arrives.”
