Victoria Warehouse weddings – Matt and Darryl
From a pie and a pint to Louboutins!
I don’t think either Matt or Darryl guessed that when they met up for their first pub date it would lead them to their wedding day. Back in 2019 Matt took Darryl on a surprise holiday for his birthday. He managed to get Darryl on a plane with no idea where he was heading and arranged for Darryl’s sister and best friends to be there too. Matt popped the question in front of the Titanic Museum in Belfast and, of course, Darryl said a resounding YES!
Wedding photography at Victoria Warehouse
Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse is such a cool venue. It’s a hotel and event space in the heart of the city and I’ve been to a fair few gigs there so it was brilliant to head back for Matt and Darryl’s Victoria Warehouse wedding photography.
Matt and Darryl’s wedding ceremony was held in The Bays. Originally used for cotton stock in the 1930s (Victoria Warehouse started life as a huge storage facility for Manchester) The Bays was later used for storage by Kelloggs, McVities and Cadburys!
Now The Bays is made up of two spaces – the pre-events/bar area and the main room complete with bare brick walls, pillars and an industrial vibe.
Now, it’s dark in the Warehouse. There’s little to no natural light and one of the main reasons Matt and Darryl booked me was because I’ve worked there before and they knew I could handle the lack of daylight! They’d gone all out on the lighting though, covering the pillars and ceremony area with fairy lights and candles which looked magical.
I love that Matt and Darryl walked down the aisle with their very proud parents. They both looked so dapper in their Louboutins (the first thing they bought for their wedding!) and Matt in his tweed suit and Darryl in his stylish navy suit with tweed waistcoat. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when they hugged each other at the top of the aisle, they both had to wipe tears away before the ceremony could start!
Urban wedding photography in Manchester
Victoria Warehouse is such a cool building and we didn’t have to go far at all to find some brilliant spots for portraits. I used the symmetry of the building for some shots as well as the battered shipping container in the carpark and the red brick walls of the warehouse. Matt and Darryl loved these little pockets of time where they could get away from their guests and just be together. After their meal and some hilarious speeches Matt, Darryl and I headed down to the basement to get all arty and creative with my lights.
Back upstairs xxx, a fab close up magician, was entertaining their family and friends before it was time to hit the dancefloor. As soon as Matt and Darryl had finished their first dance everyone surrounded them and the party kicked off. What a night!
